Dear Margie, Recieved your letter Saturday & the cigarettes Sunday. Was very nive to hear from you & thanks a heck of a lot for the Camels. We haven't been able to get away for a week. They really came in handy. Yes I got my rating pretty quick I was the first one in the outfit to be made a corpol so quick. Made me feel pretty good. Probably will be a while before I get my sargiants stripes. Say, you did pretty well on your birthday. You should be well fired for jewelry now. Dont you wish those birthdays would roll around oftener? What a life! What a life!
yes, I hope you can read this. I'm a heck of a writer. Guess I don't do enough of it. I usually use the typewriter, but I'm too lazy to goo over & use it. How is everything up at Coney? Don't imagine there is a lot doing over there. That ought to make it pretty interesting for you gals, eh? I've got a furlough coming up around the 10th of October. Don't know if I'll get it or not but I'm hoping. I'm going to try & bring my car back with me. Hope I can enough gasoline. I sure can use my car down here. I'd like to go to Amaills or Cloris N.M once in a while. There isnt a thing to do here in Hereford. I used to think Dayton was dead but it's a mad-house compound to Hereford.

last Saturday, we had our first High Masss here. 20 of the italian prisioners furnished the music & singing. It was pretty good. You know some of these Italians are exceptionally good singers. Too bbad they have to be "penned" up here. We had a fire drill the other night, First one in quite a while. We all happened to me in the movie. We thought it was the real McCoy. Liked to have a killed each other getting out. Then we found out it was only a drill so we all went back in. About 5 minutes later we were called back out again. This time it was a mistake. By that time I was so disgusted I didn't even go back. We went to the P-X & drank beer. Some stuff.
Nearly everyone is in town to-night. Its a pretty quite in here. Still I cant concentrate on anything to write. My thinker isn't working so good. Maybe its the beer I drank. Well, I'll close the gas house for tonight. I've been gassing long enough. Tell your folkes I said "Hello". Be good & write when you can. Thanks again for the Camels.
Your Cousin,
