Dear Margie,
I recieved your letter today & was glad to hear from you. I got the letter on that expensive paper but I'll have to answer it when I get back. We are out on manuevers now waydown in Califonia somewhere the 81st division. I won't get to write much while I'm out here but I will do the best I can. I haven't got much writing material with me. This is a hell of a life out here but thats the reason they have good men like me out here I guess. I am now laying on my pork hole writing I wont get to do the usual writing out and I'll write to everybody when I get back. I may get a furlough when I get back I hope.
I hope we go to a POE from her but I donot if we wll I guess Charlie is getting about the same basic training I got. I hope they send him to this division when he gets his basic. About my hoping I really got it. I fought a guy that was pretty good & carry a balck eye for a week. I had bruises all over me from that fight but it was fun. Well this is a short letter but its the best I can do for now under those circumstances. Enemy planes are attacking so I'll be seeing you.
So long
Joe
