20 November 1943
Dear Margie
Recieved your letter the other day, but I've been so damn lazy, I just haven't had time to answer.Have been work from 6:30 A.M. to 10:00 P.M nearly every day. You know, we changed stations right after I got back from furlough. As you can tell from my address, we are now at Camp Bonnie, Texas. Really "deep in the heart of texas". Its not a bad camp, but they have no system here. That really makes it tough for me. But I guess we'll get straightened out one of these days. Hope so, anyhow. Yes, I had a wonderful time on my furlough. It didn't last long enough though! The time past awfully fast.
The girl friend & I had a wonderful time. And she's really a wonderful gal! Hear from her quite often. Keep me pretty busy answering her letters. But I don't mind. I'm tickled pink to hear from her. So you've been having snow, huh? The weather down here is nice & warm. Typical Texas weather. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit of snow though. Damn I am so tired, I can't think of anything to write. We're having a big inspection Monday & we're be going full blast getting ready for it. So I'm a little on the tired side. What's with you all? How are you making out with all the boy friends? Don't imagine you've been having much trouble! Did you know that Bill has shipped out? Mother wrote me yesterday & said that she recieved a letter saying that he arrived at his destination
( 2 )
safe & sound. Lord only knows where he is though. I've an idea he's in Iceland. Don't know why. He said its pretty nice there, & he has plenty of good beer. So I guess he'll be able to put up with it O.K. Well Margie, I can't hardly keep awake so I'll close for now. Hope you can read this scribbling O.K. Tell you folks I said "Hello" & write when you can. Be good & stay sober!
As ever
Joe
