My own Darling;
I'm sorry I missed writing to you yesterday, dearest. but I really had a reason. Sunday evening during open post I went up to Sarge Frederick. He really has it soft. Doesn't have to get up till 6 a.m, has open post every nite after 5 p.m and over the weekend. And to top it all off dearest, he has a very soft job in a supply office. He showed me round his hotel and then took me to his office. Then we sat and talked till 9 p.m. He walked all the way down to my hotel with
me. I get home around 9:45 open post was till 10 p.m. We lay in bed and talked till 11:30. Just exactly 2:40 a.m Monday morning they woke us up and told us, out of the clear blue sky, that we are going to have KP Boy, what a shock. I'm telling you darling, my never dragged so bad before in all my life. We were on from 3 a.m till about 8 p.m. Sewed, prepared and cleaned up. After three meals plus cleaning all the grounds around the mess hall and white washing the palm trees 5ft above the ground. I'm tell you darling, those mess halls must be spick and span. They're scubbed and washed all though, three times a day.
The only rest we had was about 1 hour in the afternoon. In which time I fell dead asleep. Darling that is one epic that I want to forget completely and neven experience again. I'm only glab I'm not a "jeep, they get it every week or two.
Darling, I got a real trill today. I recieved your picture. Darling it made me shiver all though my body. I love you so very much and seeing your face again after such a long time just made me turn to water all over darling. I just can't wait till I hold you again in my arms and kiss you to pieces. I miss your
Twonderful body pressed against mine, dearest and your happy, carefree personality. I just can't wait much longer darling. The picture helped some, but I want my baby now and nothing can subsitute. All the boys thought that you were very pretty darling. Some of them looked at your picture many times, it made me feel really proud.
Two of the fellows, that are 27 years old, dearest are being shipped out tomorrow and we got two more shots today. That only means that we are going to be shipped within ten days. Another thing darling, it happened today, we opened post two hours every night, that's another indication. I guess
it won't be long now. When and wherever we go next, we'll stay there for 5 months. We'll be together every nite darling. Maybe we can even live together. Today I asked the "Sarge" about my dependancy allotment. He said he hadn't heard anything yet but would this week. Darling I guess it does seem sort of funny to you how I changed my mind about sending packages and writing. I told you about the writing in one of my letters and the packages - here's the story. We were told at first that we were not allowed to have any food in the room whatsoever. A little
later we were told we could have packages of food for 24hrs and no longer. Believe me dear nothing last more that 5 or 6 hours here, I found out from other fellows' packages. Darling I'm looking forward to tall house cookies from my darling. By the way if my mom wants to send anything, tell her not to send any cake, because of the climate it would spoil. I love to have some atrosessel bocken" but that would spoil. Only dry cookies.
My first week day open post was spent thus. Chow I sent my clothing (Civies) home to you, to the P-X for a coke stamps a little present for your mom. I tried to find something for Ma but couldn't. I'll have to keep looking. Well darling, more tomorrow. Read extracts of our letters to both parents.
Regards to all,
Love
Herb
