Dear Mrs. Scripture,-
Recieved your letter yesterday inquiring about your son Ward. Well he has not come back to the barack as yet, but don't worry, as it quite cold here. Our Corp was to the rifle range last Thursday, half of the Company had practice. It rained and snowed all Thursday night and Friday. We cam back Fri noon in pouring rain 8 miles pass marched through mud and sluch up to our knees regular wood lot roads full of nuts. It was a terrible test. We are going out again Monday, so Ward is better off where he is I hope. Please excuse terrible writting
Is he in Camp Gordon base hospital or someother one? If you are anxious write to the hospital. I too have a loving Mother and Father. I am the only one so it is much harder for them, left a small farm in good old Massachusetts. A chum of mine from my home town died last week at the hospital, he was in the 11th Artillery Band. got a cold and sore throat just like Ward, he was another boy that never wrote home. The climate here is so dampwe have be careful all the time. I had sore throat and when motehr didn't hear from me regular, I told her and it worried her greatly, so I guess I will be like Ward next time. Hoping you will hear from him regularly and wishing you also a Happy New Year. I remain Ward's friend and bunkie.
