TELE.442. ALDERSHOT.
12/2/39 My Dear Mummy,
Thanks so much for your card. You certainly see to be having a pretty busy time what with badmintion, A.R.P. and have nursing. So Aunty Nora is coming this weekend I hope you all have a nice time, I will drop her a line to Road today wishing her a happy birthday. I went along to the mess last night after I got back from a flick at about 11.10 but I found it shut so could not phone you. I got back quite safely after quite a pleasant journey down. We were taken into Salisbury by school transport and then got a through train to Famborough from were Crepe and I showed aÿ
taxi to Aldershot. My buggage was not weighed on this journey as I did not go via London, but I shall claim for the excess on the outward journey also the taxi from Famborough to Aldershot and porters etc. The O.R.S thinks I shall get it all O.K. and says he will see I do not love on the deal, so That is encouraging. We hot an Easter break from April 7th-11th and a Summer Break from July 14th-27th which is very nice and better than I thought. The course finished at 11.30 on Saturday morning. We had a very interesting lecture on foreigh infantry weapons and were shown the amentograph target at which shoot at screen on which a target is projected, the bullet ____ the projector to throw a still and your bullet hole is shown in relation to the target - all very complicated and very ingenious, I will explain it to you
later. Our reports were shown, mine was really rather a good one ad the Col. said that my C.O ought to very pleased with it, of a quiet and unassurring character a good speaker above average in lectures. good knowledge in handling the teaching of small arms and a bit more wash, mostly untrue but it makes quite a pleasant reading and providing it pleases the C.O that is all that matters. I saw "Pygmalion" yesterday in Famborough are absolutely grand film, first class in every way. I may take a weekend next weekend or the week agter it depends how things fit in. I miss my hot and cold water and in bathroom here but I am glad to have my wireless again and have cinemas and shops in easy range.
Since I have been away my servant has polished my floor nicely, repainted mantlepiece and pointed my howth, seattke and tongs, poher etc so my room really looks quite nice. I have got my first copy of my regimental magaazine which I will send you some time. I believe I am Ord. Officier tomorrow which is not a very cheering thought, but unfortunately there are only about 5 of us here to do it so we got one every five days. I shall be glad when the day arrives when W.O.III are allowed to do it. There can pay out Coys now but can't yet Ord. Dog damn it. Well I don't think I have much else to say so will close. Please give my love to Grandma and Jean.
With much love
From Teddie
